An Open Letter To All Supply Teachers - NISTR End of Term Update
I wish to update you on the recent exciting developments for the new Northern Ireland Supply Teacher Register (NISTR) solution, due to launch prior to the new academic year 2022/23. NISTR is one of many Projects in the Education Information Solutions (EdIS) Programme. For further information on the EdIS Programme please visit the Education Authority website: Education Information Solutions Programme (EdIS) | Education Authority Northern Ireland.
We are very excited to announce the name of NISTR will be changing to ‘Northern Ireland Supply Teacher Register’. The new name and logo were developed in collaboration with the NISTR Working Group which includes representation from Supply Teachers, School Users, Trade unions, Education Authority, and other key stakeholders. Please look out for the new logo displayed on all future communications, in addition to the new solution interface.
There will be no NISTR provision from the 04-Aug-22 – 22-Aug-22 to facilitate supply teacher bookings, this is to facilitate the Data Migration and Cutover to the new NISTR solution. All existing data will transfer to the new NISTR. The new NISTR Solution will Go Live for teachers on the 15-Aug-22, the Go Live date for Schools is 22-Aug-22. An online Drop-in Clinic for supply teachers will be available from the 15th August for any questions or issues users may have with the new NISTR solution. Users will also be provided with details on FAQs, how to guides/ training guides and other helpful information prior to Go Live.
It is important that all Supply Teachers log in to the solution between the dates 15-Aug-22 – 22-Aug-22 to reset their password, review and update their profile and set their availability status. It is vital that your profile and availability is updated to ensure schools can contact you for bookings at the start of the academic school year. More details on how to do this will be included in the training sessions.
Online ‘Familiarisation and Adoption’ sessions for the new NISTR solution have been established and will take place in the last week of June for supply teachers and school users. The aim of these sessions is to familiarise users with the new solution and the development to date. The sessions will provide an overview of available features and benefits the solution will bring to all users. The ‘Familiarisation and Adoption’ sessions are to provide an overview only, with further detailed end-to-end training sessions offered in August.
These familiarisation sessions will take place via MS Teams Webinar on the following dates:
- Wednesday 29th June 2022 - 2pm - 2.45pm
- Thursday 30th June 4.30pm – 5.15pm
For more information on booking a place please visit: Register for the New NISTR Familiarisation Sessions | NISTR
The new solution is designed to be intuitive and user friendly, reducing the need for intensive training. Training sessions for all Supply Teachers and Schools will take place in August, training dates are provided below; it is recommended that all supply teachers that utilise NISTR attend these online sessions.
The training session will take place via MS Teams Webinar and will provide an end to end walk through of the new solution.
The training sessions will last no longer than 1.5 hours, users only need to register for one session as the same content will be covered across all.
Users will be required to book onto a preferred session via the NISTR website: Register for the new NISTR Training Sessions | NISTR

The NISTR project team continue to develop the new NISTR solution. Initial feedback from teachers, school users, principals, trade unions and other key stakeholders involved in the development have been extremely positive to date. For early insight into the new NISTR functionality, we have created a video.
User Acceptance Testing (UAT) will take place on the new NISTR solution. Testing will be completed by users of the solution i.e. supply teachers and school users to ensure the solution performs as expected prior to Go Live. We are actively recruiting Testers to support with UAT.
If you are interested in taking part, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Testers will be required to attend in person or remote sessions to complete the testing and will only be required for the sessions for which they are available. Further information will be provided on receipt of your interest.
We will continue to engage and communicate with schools and teachers during the summer months up until Go Live in August.
